Steiger & Doppler trio
Steiger: Gilles Vandecaveye keys, Kobe Boon bass, Simon Raman drums.
Doppler Trio: Daniël van der Duim piano, Floris-Jan van den Berg double bass, Hendrik Eichler drums.
Piano, bass, drums: it all seems so conventional, but everything is different with both Steiger and Doppler Trio, who will appear at the BIMHUIS stage on the same evening. The Belgian sensation explores the borders of jazz with fascinating soundscapes, elusive melodies and unexpected breaks, while their songs remain compact and catchy. Their recent album The New Lady Llama emphasizes sound exploration, synthesizers and prepared piano.
The title of the new Doppler Trio album, Archean, refers to the geologic eon when the earth developed its crust. A period that is reflected in the presence of a powerful dramatic curve in the music. The Dutch-German trio does not shy away from complexity, but always retains a driving, emotional sound. Synthesizers, folk influences, vocals and Eastern rhythms are some of the more striking ingredients.
