Stefano Battaglia Trio

Stefano Battaglia piano, Salvatore Maiore double bass, Roberto Dani drums

Stefano Battaglia made himself known in the classical music world, with a repertory including everything from baroque to modern, before he switched to improvised music. The pianist from Milan continues to hover between jazz and chamber music. In his trio his spacious sound becomes one with the imaginative playing of double bassist Salvatore Maiore and percussionist Roberto Dani.

Battaglia has previously released albums paying tribute to film composer Pasolini and to his role models Paul Bley and Bill Evans. His recent album Pelagos (ECM) can be heard as a meditation on exile and migration in the form of a series of solo improvisations. The album is seen as one of his best.

‘Battaglia’s music transcends its theme. Its universality creates its power’ (JazzTimes).

‘A masterful example of ensemble playing, a symbiosis of three musicians who complete each other’s sound universes perfectly’ (Jazzmozaïek on Stefano Battaglia Trio).
