STEFANO BATTAGLIA TRIO
Stefano Battaglia piano, Salvatore Maiore bas, Roberto Dani drums
Stefano Battaglia reaches a fascinating balance between jazz and chamber music. The Italian pianist has received great acclaim for his recent ECM album In the Morning: Music of Alec Wilder.
Stefano Battaglia made himself known in the classical music world, with a repertory including everything from baroque to modern, before he switched to improvised music. The pianist from Milan continues to hover between jazz and chamber music. In his trio his spacious sound becomes one with the imaginative playing of double bassist Salvatore Maiore and percussionist Roberto Dani.
Battaglia has previously released albums paying tribute to film composer Pasolini and to his role models Paul Bley and Bill Evans. His most recent album In the Morning is dedicated to Alec Wilder, who’s known as a songwriter for Frank Sinatra and Peggy Lee. Battaglia discovered a treasure trove of remarkable compositions written by this American composer.
‘A masterful example of ensemble playing, a symbiosis of three musicians who complete each other’s sound universes perfectly’ (Jazzmozaïek).
