There’s an incredible story behind the Congolese band Staff Benda Bilili. This group of street musicians from Kinshasa, several of them who are handicapped and ride tricycles, recorded their debut album Très très fort with a laptop, microphones and tapped electricity. Vincent Kenis, who discovered Konono n°1 and Kasai Allstars, took care of the post-production. Staff Benda Bilili fuses Congolese rumba and soukous with melancholic reggae and touches of funk. The one string guitar, made from a can and some electricity wire, provides hypnotizing solos.
