Spoken word and music come together in Spoken Beat Night, featuring writer/biologist Kees Moeliker, among others, bringing surprising discoveries from the animal kingdom.
Singer, writer and spoken word artist Jeannine Valeriano and her team present cross-over language concerts mixing spoken word, poetry, jazz, world and funky beats. Every edition features guest performances by a musician, a writer and a new talent. Two cartoon-jockeys give live commentary with projected drawings. Guests for this edition are biologist Kees Moeliker, cellist Jörg Brinkmann and saxophonist Joëll Wilson, bringing surprising discoveries and fabulous fables from the animal kingdom.
Dutch biologist Kees Moeliker writes books and columns, and since 2015 he’s director of the Rotterdam Natural History Museum. With his wry, humorous tone of voice he reveals the unknown side of animal life and makes us think, for example about the search for the last pubic louse or a tale about an Easter egg pecking magpie.
Jörg Brinkmann paints a warm palette of sounds on cello. Jazz, pop, bowed or pizzicato – he continues to open new worlds. Previously he has collaborated with, among others, Eric Vloeimans and Zapp4.
This edition’s new talent, young saxophone player Joëll Wilson, is a student of the Junior Jazz College of Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In 2012 he won first prize of the Prinses Christina Concours with his Joëll Wilson Quintet.
