For Rob Mazurek the cornet is a means to reach higher atmospheres, often with the help of electronic effects. His approach touches on the psychedelic jazz of Miles Davis and Sun Ra, as well as the alternative pop/rock of Stereolab and Tortoise. Relatively new is his collaboration with Brazilian percussionists in Sao Paulo Underground. For 14 years he has been collaborating with drummer Chad Taylor in Chicago Underground Duo. ‘The creative energy manifested by these two men shows no sign of fading away’ (The Wire).
