Singer Simin Tander presents Unfading, an album for which she selected texts by female poets. At its core is poetry from Afghanistan, from sixteenth-century verses to lyrics from an Afghan hit from the 1960s. Additionally, she chose poems by Sylvia Plath and Gabriela Mistral, alongside her own songs.
Simin Tander was born in Colgone, but Afghanistan, the land of her father, is always near to her heart. After her classical training she studied jazz in The Netherlands, where she performed with Eric Vloeimans, among others. She has previously interpreted poetry in the Afghan language, for example on the album What Was Said, a collaboration with Tord Gustavsen. That album, which was released in 2016 on ECM Records, won the prestigious German Record Critics’ Award.
