Vocaliste, componiste en performer Shelley Hirsch reist al twee decennia langs de concertpodia en theaters over de hele wereld, treedt op voor radio en televisie en bracht opnamen uit op talloze labels. De New York Times karakteriseert haar als ‘enormously inventive, scathingly satiric and virtuosic a brilliant overwhelming presence on stage’. Ook pianist-componist Anthony Coleman trad wereldwijd op, o.a. met zijn eigen trio Sephardic Tinge, met Marc Ribot’s Los Cubanos Postizos, en in vele projecten van John Zorn, met wie hij tientallen platen en cd’s maakte. Hirsh en Coleman werkten al vaak samen, ook in elkaars projecten. Hun gedeelde fascinatie voor Kurt Weill deed hen besluiten voor het eerst als duo te toeren: ‘ In and Around Kurt Weill. Standing the singer-pianist thing on its head (that’s what gets the blood circulating). Something freeimprovisational, something ’theatrical’.
