SHEILA JORDAN & SERGE FORTÉ TRIO
Sheila Jordan-vocals, Serge Forté-piano, Stéphane Kerecki-double bass, Karl Jannuska-drums
Sheila Jordan started to sing ‘vocalese’ in the early 50’s, suggested by Charlie Parker who’s solos she wrote lyrics to. Lessons from Lennie Tristano and working with George Russel, Carla Bley and Roswel Budd also had a profound influence on her. Like Billie Holiday, her singing is intense and autobiographic, like Betty Carter, she is a specialist in scatting and she is one of the few vocalists that improvise music and lyrics.
