Shalosh

Gadi Stern piano, David Michaeli double bass, Matan Assayag drums

Shalosh (Hebrew for ‘three’) is a tight-knit piano trio that continues to explore new roads. With piano, double bass and drums these young jazz musicians have crafted an energetic style, referring to rock, classical and Middle Eastern music. For example, their recent album Broken Balance contains a Nirvana cover, and a song based on a photograph of David Bowie in Berlin.

Shalosh makes music that appeals to the senses and that radiates strength, without losing thoughtfulness and delicacy. The trio has a sense of being implanted in tradition but with a perceptive eye for the future. For the YouTube series Shalosh + One, the trio collaborated with well-known Israelian musicians from various genres from jazz to hip-hop, including guitarist Gilad Hekselman and trumpeter Itamar Borochov.
