BRAZILIAN SUMMER SESSIONS: SERTANÍLIA

8:30 PM – DOCUMENTARY: Patativa do Assaré – Ave Poesia (2007), Directed by: Rosemberg Cariry (84’)
Documentary about poet, guitarist and singer Patativa do Assaré (1909-2002), who came from a simple rural background and is now considered one of the main Brazilian poets of the 20th century.

10 PM – CONCERT: SERTANÍLIA
The young Brazilian band Sertanília, from the ‘capital of happiness’, Salvador de Bahia, unites different musical cultures that co-exist in their country. The band is made up of singer Aiace, guitar/viola player Anderson Cuha and percussionist Diego Flórez. These three are mainly interested in making contemporary translations in their songs of traditional rural music styles.
