Sergio de Lope Quintet
Friday8 February 2019

Sergio de Lope (Córdoba, 1985) and his band are part of the new generation of flamenco creators bridging the gap between flamenco and jazz. They prove that the genre is blossoming in Spain. De Lope, who was voted Best Flamenco Instrumentalist at Festival de la Unión 2017, ‘sings’ flamenco with his flute and sax, translating the expressive soul of flamenco into original jazz compositions.

On his debut album Sergio de Lope takes us into ‘A Night in Utrera’, like Dizzy Gillespie once conjured ‘A Night in Tunesia’. With this album he takes the next step onto a path created by flutist Jorge Pardo as part of the legendary Paco de Lucía Sextet. His band includes pianist Alfonso Aroca, the great discovery of the Flamenco Biënnale in 2017.

Sergio de Lope flute/saxophone, Matías López “el Mati” vocals, Juanfe Pérez bass guitar, Alfonso Aroca piano, Javier Rabadán percussion
