On his debut album The Southern Suite, Sean Mason gives a contemporary twist to the music he grew up with in Charlotte, North Carolina. The pianist mixes the gospel of the church with raw street culture, and blues grooves with Broadway melodies. He moved to New York at the recommendation of jazz hero Branford Marsalis, who was immediately impressed with his playing. Sean Mason now plays at the most prestigious jazz clubs in the city, and his international breakthrough is very near.
For his first European tour, Sean formed a band with fantastic players from New York, who also appear on The Southern Suite. The secret weapon is double bassist Felix Moseholm, who played with some of the greatest in contemporary jazz, including Samara Joy, Joel Ross and Brad Mehldau. Trumpeter Tony Glausi and drummer Domo Branch complete the quartet. Special guest is tenor saxophonist Marios Charalampous.
