SCHUBERT IMPRESSIONS

Thomas Oliemans-baritone, Ernst Munnike-piano, Dick de Graaf-tenor saxophone, Roeland Duijne-cello, Andrea Pozza-piano, Stephan Kurmann-double bass, Norbert Pfammatter-drums, Announcements: Aukelien van Hoytema

It is not the first time that saxophonist Dick de Graaf uses music of Jimi Hendrix, Sting, Lennon/McCartny, The Who, Stevie Wonder and Ludwig van Beethoven as a starting point for new, catchy arrangements and improvisation. For his Schubert Impressions for Jazz Quintet (an assignment of the Shubert Unvollendet-Vollendet Festival in Basel) he extended his international quartet with a classical cellist. In the first set, the baritone Thomas Oliemans performs a number of Schubert songs including Das Wandern, Wohin and Der Tod und das Mädchen. In the second set de Graaf will play instrumental versions of these songs and his reinterpretations of themes from Franz Schubert’s String quartet in C and his Unfinished Symphony.
