Relative Pitch Records is a New York-based label specialized in avant-jazz, improvisation, and experimental music. Musicians from all over the world record CDs and digital albums for the label, which has resulted in a close-knit international network. This three-part concert celebrates the releases of Marta Warelis solo; the trio Tobias Klein, Marta Warelis, and Frank Rosaly; and the trio Fie Schouten, Vincent Courtois, and Guus Janssen.

Marta Warelis has a strong preference for improvisation and experiment in all kinds of styles. She continuously aims for instant composing on the basis of new sounds and influences. The Polish-born keyboard improvisor explores the timbral possibilities of the acoustic piano, like on her first solo album A Grain of Earth.

Early 2024 will see the release of the first album of a trio with a remarkable chemistry, intense and relaxed at the same time, and very personal. Bass clarinettist Tobias Klein has regularly performed on our stage with Spinifex. Marta Warelis is a rising star pianist in the Amsterdam improv scene. Drummer Frank Rosaly has previously worked with, among others, Thurston Moore, Roscoe Mitchell, and Ken Vandermark.

Clarinettist Fie Schouten, cellist Vincent Courtois, and pianist Guus Janssen present their project Vostok – Remote Islands. This fall they will release an eponymous album full of contrasting atmospheres and sounds, inspired by the book Atlas of Remote Islands – Fifty Islands I Have Not Visited and Never Will, by Judith Schalansky. Featuring live drawing by Henning Bolte.
