Water in its many forms is the theme of Savina Yannatou’s new songs: the rain, the sea, rivers, springs, nymphs, drops, tears, the water of the body, the body in the water, the castaway, the sailor, the immigrant, the drowned. For the program Water Song, the Greek soprano will perform together with Tunisian singer and storyteller Lamia Bedioui, who brings to life the desert through her Arabic timbre and the languages and dialects of the Bedouins. Both singers will be accompanied by Primavera en Salonico, the group with which Yannatou has recorded several albums for the renowned label ECM Records.

Greek singer Savina Yannatou has mastered vocal techniques from all over the globe. Aside from traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern singing she experiments with throat singing and dissonance. With Primevara en Salonico she gives her own original interpretation to traditional music, from Greek celebration songs to Slavic singing and Sephardic-Jewish songs. Primavera en Salonico has a unique lineup with oud, quanun, violin, accordeon, percussion, waterphone, mbira, and double bass.
