Sanne Rambags uses her voice as an instrument, sometimes through lyrics and poetry and often as pure sound. Jeroen van Vliet is regarded as ‘one of the most lyrical piano players in The Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant), ‘master of nuance’ (Trouw). They both take inspiration from Nordic culture, and perform often in Norway. In this double concert they appear in a band with Norwegian musicians, preceded by another ensemble where Rambags performs in, Elpis Ériu Maeve.
Elpis Ériu Maeve (hope, protection, sovereignty) consists of three female vocalists who complement each other on various instruments. Playing together harmonically and supporting each other’s voices are essential to them. In their search for a deeper connection with their inner strength, they take the listener on a journey to an otherworldly place.
At the invitation of jazz venue Paradox, Sanne Rambags and Jeroen van Vliet formed a new group with two musicians from Norway, trumpeter Hildegunn Øiseth and percussionist Jakop Janssønn. Hildegunn Øiseth is known for her lyrical, cinematic approach to trumpet, bugle and bukkehorn (goat or ram’s horn). She has worked in the Middle East and Asia. Jakop Janssønn forms various ensembles, including Bricoleur with tuba player Daniel Herskedal and violinist Håkon Aase. Janssønn playing is subdued, as well as colorful and dynamic.
