This two-part concert draws attention to the ever more international music life of Amsterdam. It opens with a solo performance by singer and cellist Sanem Kalfa. She will be followed by the brass and percussion players of The Zebra Street Band, featuring illustrious names from the local jazz and improvised music scene.

The solo project of Sanem Kalfa is an intimate and delicate expression of sounds created with cello, ukulele, voice, electronics. Songs are about women and their strength will be interchanged with songs inspired by poetry from her native Turkey. Sanem Kalfa has performed at our venue various times, including her own REFLEX-project in March 2022. As a singer, she has won the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2010, when the jury was led by Quincy Jones.

The Zebra Street Band creates highly energetic music that is both challenging and infectiously danceable. Myriad styles melt together into a unique and original repertoire. Moments of groove alternate with floating textures and collective improvisations. Every member of the band is a strong soloist and improviser, allowing the music to come out fresh and new with each performance. To date, the band has released two albums, ZeBrass (2018) and Shirwku (2022).
