In her performances, Sanem Kalfa creates an intimate and delicate atmosphere with cello, voice and electronics. For our Reflex concert series she composed new work and formed a new group. Miraculous Layers consists of well-known jazz musicians, all female, who were all born in different countries. Together they the cover a spectrum of human feelings, yearnings, fears and delights contained in and expressed by the human voice.

Sanem Kalfa is well-known for her capability to use her voice in a wide musical range. Her technical capacity of vocality always goes together with a freeing emotional spirit in performances touching on the primal grounds of the human soul. She won the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival Vocal Competition in 2010, when the jury was led by Quincy Jones. In Miraculous Layers she performs alongside the internationally renowned saxophonist Tineke Postma, pianist Marta Warelis and drummer Sun-Mi Hong.
