ROSWELL RUDD NEW TROMBONE SHOUT BAND

Roswell Rudd always manages to emphasize the unique character of the trombone. He developed his energetic and playful approach since the 1960s through experiment and improvisation, often in collaboration with befriended musicians like Steve Lacy and Archie Shepp. Rudd has a god-like status among improvisers. With fellow New Yorkers Steve Swell and Deborah Weisz he plays original blues and gospel inspired material in the New Trombone Shout Band. ‘A trombonist of such sweeping power and majesty that he transcends all styles’ (NY Times). ‘Rudd gets more trombone out of his instrument than any colleague, past or present’ (New Yorker).
