It’s a busy year for ‘the most swinging flutist of The Netherlands’ (de Volkskrant), Ronald Snijders. The founder of Surinam funk presents his extensive CD box set Made for Music, with 382 previously unreleased tracks from the past 40 years. Each of the 20 CDs is another new amalgam of styles, from funk and bossa to rap and samba. The box features countless line-ups, from solo to symphony orchestra. At the Bimhuis the flutist will play with a particularly versatile band.
Ronald Snijders is legendary as an innovator of Surinam styles such as kaseko and kawina. He fuses them with funk, jazz and other styles he sees fit. His LPs are collector’s items for DJs and his music appeared on Dutch Rare Groove compilations. Last year Snijders appeared on the album Satellite Love by Giovanca and he collaborated with Brazilian band Azymuth, Malinese musician Basseko Kouyaté and American jazz pianist Aruán Ortiz.
‘A great flutist and excellent composer’ (Chick Corea).
