Brazilian session at the Bimhuis celebrating the 100th anniversary of samba, the genre that originated in Rio de Janeiro.

This edition of the festive Brazilian session Roda da Samba is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of samba. The first recorded samba song ‘Pelo Telefone was released in 1916. At the Bimhuis musicians from Brazil, The Netherlands and beyond will pay tribute to the great names of the genre that originated in Rio de Janeiro. With contemporary versions of timeless samba classics the Bimhuis will be turned into one vibrant dance floor!

Before the concert, at 8:30 PM, the classic movie Black Orpheus by Marcel Camus (1959) based on the play Orfeu da Conceição by Vinícius de Moraes, an adaptation of the Greek legend of Orpheus and Eurydice set in the modern context of a favela in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval will be shown. Language: Portugese, subtitles in Dutch.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.00 til 8.00PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
