ROBERTO FONSECA

1 set, no intermission

Roberto Fonseca piano/keyboard, Dannay vocals, Javier Zalba clarinet/saxophone/flute, Omar González bass, Joel Hierrezuelo percussion, Ramsés Rodríguez drums

Cuban piano player Roberto Fonseca is primarily known as a musical heir to Buena Vista Social Club; he played alongside the most prominent members of the successful orchestra, Ibrahim Ferrer and Rubén González. As a solo artist Fonseca presents a contemporary version of Afro-Cuban music, in which he mixes traditional son rhythms with soul and jazz. Herbie Hancock admires his percussive piano playing. ‘One of the most dazzling pianists and accompanists in Cuba’ (The Guardian).
