DOUBLE ESPRESSO
ROARING TWENTIES EXPRESS
Annette de Greeuw, Floortje Smehuijzen, Babette Jane, Loes Rusch saxen
Four saxes, four women, one sound: saxophone quartet Double Espresso takes inspiration from the great jazz saxophone players, with swinging solos and steaming bass lines.
A saxophone quartet in jazz is quite an experience, especially Double Espresso, with four saxes, four women and one sound. They play original music and they combine the worlds of Latin, jazz and the Roaring Twenties. The result is improvisation, thumping bass lines and swinging solos.
The girls of Double Espresso play pieces written by and for them. They’re inspired by musical heroes such as Charles Mingus, Sonny Rollins and Lee Morgan. All pieces are written or arranged for the unique line-up of two alto and two baritone saxophones. In this line-up the baritones have unlimited possibilities, playing steaming bass lines as well as screaming solos.
