REMBRANDT FRERICHS TRIO MEETS PAOLO FRESU
Thursday3 December 2015

Pianist Rembrandt Frerichs and his trio balance between jazz, classical and Eastern music. Special guest is trumpet player Paolo Fresu, a key figure in Italian jazz.

The project Made in Europe is collaboration between the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio and Paolo Fresu. This Sardinian trumpet and flugelhorn player and composer is one of the best-known jazz musicians in Italy. His sound has drawn comparisons to Chet Baker and Miles Davis. In the last 30 years Paolo Fresu has performed on around 300 albums, including original albums alongside ECM-recordings with Carla Bley, Ralph Towner and the vocal group A Filetta.

Rembrandt Frerichs has been called an ‘an adventurer of the keys’ and ‘a master on his instrument’ by the Dutch daily newspapers Trouw and de Volkskrant, respectively. The Dutch pianist scouted New York and spent time living in Cairo. His music contains the drive of American jazz and the lyricism of Eastern music, as well as the spaciousness of the chamber music of Debussy and Ravel.

‘Rembrandt’s music is a wonder of organic creativity, an exemplary fusion of the old and the new world’ (HP/De Tijd).

‘Paolo Fresu is one of the most seductive trumpet players in jazz’ (Jazz Times).
