Rembrandt Frerichs Trio – A Wind Invisible Sweeps Us Through The World

Rembrandt Frerichs piano, Tony Overwater double bass, Vinsent Planjer drums

Pianist Rembrandt Frerichs and his trio have been travelling the world for over fifteen years. They discovered that some compositions shared a special kind of magic, wherever they were played. These were pieces from different times and cultures; a Bach motif, a Chinese folk song, a whiff of Armenian folklore. Melodies that touched audiences no matter the background or culture. For the album A Wind Invisible Sweeps Us Through The World the trio dreamed up a similar kind of compositions, strong, consise, and timeless. The album has got great reviews and has been nominated for the Jazzism Edison Publieksprijs 2022.

The album title, taken from a poem by thirteenth century Persian poet Rumi, encapsulates the magic and universality of music. Like the wind, the air blowing through the pipes of the organ, the invisible waves of sound that shape a song. Rembrandt Frerichs, a descendant of two generations of church organists, integrates the sound of the organ in his piano playing. Double bassist Tony Overwater’s playing is inspired by the many Arabian singers and musicians he has collaborated with. Percussionist Vinsent Planjer has developed his signature ‘whisper kit’ with percussion instruments from all over the world.
