Pianist Rein de Graaff made his live debut 60 years ago and since then he has brought over countless international jazz heroes to the Netherlands, including Johnny Griffin, Hank Mobley and Clifford Jordan. Since the BIMHUIS was founded in 1974 he has been performing here with his trio, sharing the stage with well-known artists and surprising discoveries.

Three saxophone greats have been invited to perform at Rein de Graaff’s farewell concert: Dutch jazz icon Benjamin Herman (New Cool Collective), ‘rising star’ Maarten Hogenhuis (Bruut!) and Marco Kegel, who has already proven himself in his younger years as a saxophonist alongside Lee Konitz and the Rein de Graaff Trio.

‘There’s nobody who’s as mad about bebop as Rein de Graaff. Jazz has become an international form of music and in The Netherlands there have appeared important stylists who have built something of their own from tradition. Their high level can be credited to people like Rein de Graaff’ (de Volkskrant).
