RAY ANDERSON/MARTY EHRLICH QUARTET
in collaboration with VPRO Radio
Ray Anderson-trombone, Marty Ehrlich-alto sax, clarinet, flute, Brad Jones-bass, Matt Wilson-drums
Trombone player Ray Anderson and reed player Marty Ehrlich have known each other for thirty years. Around 1979 they were part of Anthony Braxton’s big band and since then both of them gained success on their own. Now they play together in a new quartet. Anderson and Ehrlich both have the gift of being able to cross the boundaries between mainstream and avant-garde with adventurous, melodic playing. ‘One of the most formidable multi-instrumentalists since Eric Dolphy’ (Village Voice on Ehrlich). ‘There is an exuberance and verve about his playing which is impossible to resist’ (Penguin Guide to Jazz on Anderson).
