‘Jazz and classical meet as equals’, is what Tagesspiegel wrote about the astonishing collaboration of these three imaginative pianists from Finland, Poland and Germany.
‘Jazz and classical meet as equals’, is what Tagesspiegel wrote about the collaboration of these three fantastic pianists from three different European countries: Finland, Poland and Germany. In December 2012 they played together for the very first time at the Berlin Philharmonic, improvising for a sold out hall. The result, a challenging crossover of jazz and classical music, has already appeared on CD. Now the three will join again for a concert tour.
The three pianists each have their own character: Leszek Możdżer from Poland is known as ‘the romantic’, Michael Wollny from Germany as ‘the perfect maestro’ and Iiro Rantala from Finland as the ‘natural phenomenon’. All three are known for their imaginative crossovers of jazz and classical music, which is why they were selected to open the concert series Jazz at the Berlin Philharmonic. On the CD recording we can hear how Iiro Rantala starts with a spectacular improvisation on Bach, after which the pianists share the stage in different combinations, culminating in a true piano summit.
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
