RAMÓN VALLE TRIO

CUBA
CD PRESENTATION: TAKE OFF
Ramón Valle piano, Omar Rodriguez Calvo bas, Ernesto Simpson drums

Contemporary jazz by three Cuban childhood friends, each of whom have made careers for themselves in Europe and have joined forces again after 13 years. ‘What a wealth of notes’ (Parool).

When his debut album Levitando appeared in 1993, Ramón Valle was immediately hailed as ‘the greatest talent among our young pianists’ by no less than Chuco Valdés, founder of the famous band Irakere. At that time Ramón lived in Cuba, but he earned praise in Europe as well for his overwhelming, expressive style, which drew comparisons with Keith Jarrett, Herbie Hancock en Chick Corea.

Ramón Valle is a Cuban pianist who does not play Latin jazz or Cuban music, but pure contemporary jazz in which he does not deny his Cuban roots. Around the turn of the millennium he moved to Amsterdam where he connected with the best Dutch jazz musicians, such as Eric Vloeimans and Jesse van Ruller. Now he will perform his own music with his childhood friends, all of whom have achieved success in European jaz in their own right: double bassist Omar Rodriguez Calvo (Tingvall Trio) and drummer Ernesto Simpson (Richard Bona, Gonzalo Rubalcaba).
‘A relaxed virtuoso with a light, intuitive touch but a flood of sound at his disposal’ (The Guardian).

‘What a wealth of notes’ (Parool).
