Trumpet player Ralph Alessi and pianist Fred Hersch share their love for beautiful ballads, thoughtful compositions and exciting improvisations. After 12 years of playing together in various bands they now present their long awaited duo CD, Only Many. Aside from original compositions by Alessi the album contains standards by Thelonious Monk and Paul Motian. Concise, melodic themes serve as points of departure for a quest in which Alessi and Hersch travel different routes that eventually come together. ‘As clean and airy and sophisticated and disciplined as post-modern progressive jazz gets’, is how Jazz Times praised Alessi’s music.
