Cuban master percussionist Roberto Rodriguez acquired a passion for klezmer when he played bar mitzvahs and Jewish theatres as a young immigrant in Miami. Later on he made a career in the bands of Joe Jackson and Paul Simon and in the 1990s he moved to New York. On John Zorn’s label Tzadik he releases CDs on which he fuses Latin and Jewish musical traditions. ‘Completely enchanting’ (Ray Barretto’s comment in Jazz Times).
