Q-ba Musica offers (in four cities from Oct. 6th till October 17th) a different view on the musical richness and vitality of Cuba. Contemporary music and surprising musical meetings are central in this festival. Rámon Valle and Keyla Orozco both studied at the music conservatory in Havana but only met later when they had moved to Amsterdam. The typical Latin piano tiger and the composer of contemporary ‘serious’ music both abstract and transform the Cuban musical legacy in their own way and, surprisingly, find that they have a lot in common. This doesn’t mean though, that their concert, revolving around Orozco’s composition ‘Eco y Espejo’, won’t be an exciting skirmish between humor and sobriety, the school and the street, local and universal traditions.
