Ensemble Klang XL makes Fausto Romitelli’s masterpiece into a dazzling sensory trip, a synthesis of sound, light, art and rock concert effects. Avenue Azure, the new duo of Saskia Lankhoorn and Peter Harden, will perform a short first set.

Professor Bad Trip is being hailed as the first musical masterpiece that was completed in the 21st century. With his three piece composition, Fausto Romitelli (1963-2004) aimed to evoke the experience of LSD, the drug that distorts the senses and transforms perception. Strings, woodwinds and electric guitars come together in a hallucinatory synthesis of sounds that will sweep listeners off their feet.

Remarkably, Professor Bad Trip has not yet been performed in its entirety in The Netherlands. Ensemble Klang XL changes this with a spectacular production led by conductor Christian Karlsen, with light installations by visual artist Meeus van Dis. Their multimedia performance elaborates on the concert experiences of 1960s psychedelic rock bands such as The Doors and Pink Floyd.

Avenue Azure is a new duo featuring Pete Harden (guitar) and Saskia Lankhoorn (piano, vocals), who have been playing together in various groups for over 10 years. Their shared history of playing and traveling together is the source of inspiration for Avenue Azure. The duo creates atmospheres that seem to be not of this earth, changing moods unconnected to time and space.
