PRESIDENT OF THE GLOBE

Elisa Roep-soprano, Alec Kopyt-voice, percussion, Albert van Veenendaal-prepared piano, sampler, Meinrad Kneer-bass, Tobias Klein-alto sax, clarinets, electronica

President of the Globe is a music program revolving around the work of the influential Russian avant-garde poet Velimir Chlebnikov (1885-1922). He developed a new conception of language (named Zaum, also known as ‘metaphysical, significant nonsense) with new words, meanings and sounds. Kneer, Veenendaal and Klein created compositions embracing his work, touching the improvised and electronic music as well as chamber and world music. The texts are in the Dutch, German and Russian language. Gripping is the contrast between Roep’s classically trained soprano and the East European rooted voice of Alec Kopyt.
