Film director Jellie Dekker created the documentary titled ‘Afijn’, about the musical life of Misha Mengelberg, the ‘godfather’ of the Dutch improvised music. Music clips, unique visual material from the archive and comments from Louis Andriessen, Han Bennink, Dave Douglas, Guus Janssen, Tomoko Mukaiyama, Rik Schipper, Wim T. Schippers and Misha himself, giving an insight in his highly original way of thinking and working. After the viewing there will be a concert of Misha Mengelberg & Han Bennink, more than once mentioned by the press as being the most unique improvisers duo in the world. Since they haven’t been playing much as a duo in the past years this concert is not to be missed. ‘Afijn’ (including musical bonuses) will be published as a DVD on the ICP label. Next year, NPS television will broadcast a shorter version of the documentary.
