The computer has a central role in the POW Ensemble. Founder Luc Houtkamp, the saxophonist who won the prestigious Boy Edgar prize in 2004, experimented with electronics as an interactive musical tool. On the recent POW Ensemble CD, ‘Birdsong from Inside the Egg,’ digital technology ties together the compositions of more than 20 contributors, who include a tap dancer, a DJ and a vocal artist. ‘This visionary Dutch ensemble has created their own medium,’ (Signal to Noise).
