PORTICO QUARTET

The Portico Quartet consists of four twenty-somethings from London, whose music strongly evokes images. Saxophone player Jack Wyllie uses electronics to enhance his sound and percussionist Nick Mulvey regularly plays hang, a cross between steel pan and gong. The timbres and rhythms produced by the quartet have similarities with gamelan music, Reich’s minimalism and Radiohead’s hypnotizing dramatics. ‘Their hook-based, jaunty, yet subtly layered music is tailor-made to find friends everywhere’ (Guardian).
