Pure improvisation that touches on avant-jazz, rock and psychedelica, with groundbreaking New York guitar players Joe Morris and Mary Halvorson.

Guitarist and avant-jazz icon Joe Morris has turned surprising angles recently in his collaborations with painist/organist and producer Jamie Saft. Their previous band Slobber Pup released an album full of heavy noise rock, a great contrast with the thoughtful, bright solo improvisations by Morris at the Bimhuis in recent years. Their new band Plymouth can easily switch from quiet parts to exuberant psychedelic outbursts, as demonstrated on the eponymous album from 2014. In this New York quintet, Morris plays with his successful former student Mary Halvorson. The group excels in pure improvisation.

‘Morris and Halvorson are terrific, intertwining lines but never tripping one another up, with a combination of sinister art-rock and free improvisation’ (Downbeat).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
