PIERRE COURBOIS VIJFKWARTSSEXTET
Toon de Gouw-trumpet, Ilja Reijngoud-trombone, Jasper Blom-saxophones, Willem Kühne-piano, Niko Langenhuijsen-bass, Pierre Courbois-drums
Pierre Courbois, a living legend from the Dutch jazz scene played with giants like Stan Getz, Johnny Griffin, Ben Webster and Eric Dolphy in the 60’s. he was one of the first in Europe to experiment with free jazz which led to the first European rock/jazz ensemble: Association PC that won an award in the famous American Down Beat Poll. The repertoire of the sextet (in classic hard bop setting) with which he has been touring in the past years comes from his fascination for odd time signatures.
