Pianist Enrico Pieranunzi, one of the highest valued Italian jazz musicians for over four decades, plays in a chamber jazz trio with double bassist Jasper Somsen and clarinet virtuoso Gabriele Mirabassi.

A dream came true for Dutch double bassist Jasper Somsen in 2012, when he started performing and touring with pianist/composer Enrico Pieranunzi. Now they will perform with Italian clarinet virtuoso Gabriele Mirabassi, with music described as classic chamber jazz. Under the moniker New Mediterranean Tales they give new life to the music of the CD Racconti Mediterranei (Mediterranean Tales) from 2000, on which Pieranunzi and Mirabassi collaborated with the American bassist Marc Johnson.

Italian jazz musician Enrico Pieranunzi has been active for over four decades and is considered one of the best pianists in his country. He made his breakthrough as pianist with trumpeter Chet Baker, who kept performing Pieranunzi’s composition Night Bird until his death. Alongside his own compositions he has interpreted film music by Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota, as well as classical music by Scarlatti.

‘A true original, and a fine composer’ (The Guardian).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 til 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
