PIANOLAB.AMSTERDAM

Pianist and improviser Stevko Busch and the Goethe Institute present a one night festival that emanates from the bimonthly concert series Pianolab.Amsterdam. In this series pianists from Amsterdam and its surroundings are given the opportunity perform their work live. This can be contemporary composed music or purely improvised music, from classical to jazz. The festival stages meetings with a range of renowned international guest players.

Misha Mengelberg, founder of the ICP Orchestra and teacher of Busch, will open the festival with a solo improvisation. Busch and Wuppertal based violinist/improviser Gunda Gottschalk put together an international ensemble of musicians who have customized their instruments in unconventional ways to adapt their style of playing. Keiko Shichijo and Dante Boon will play solo and duo compositions by Morton Feldman. The festival closes with the energetic, layered chamber improvisations by the international trio of Achim Kaufmann, Frank Gratkowski and Wilbert de Joode.
