Phronesis + Floors

This energetic formation from London gives a futuristic twist to the jazz formula of piano, bass and drums. ‘A killer live band’ (The Guardian). Preceded by the Italian sensation Floors.

Everything and everyone in the universe is interconnected: this is what Phronesis want to communicate with the album We Are All, the current highlight of their oeuvre according to de Volkskrant. The threesome from London became a big name at (jazz) festivals thanks to their exciting ensemble playing, sometimes close-knit and sometimes disorienting, but always in balance. Double bassist Jasper Høiby, pianist Ivo Neame and drummer Anton Eger all provide the compositions.

‘Directing, disrupting and bringing everything to a good conclusion. This is what Phronesis, founded by London-based, Danish-born bassist Jasper Høiby has been doing since day one. The long blonde frontman plays his double bass intensely, as an archer, plucking the strings as if he’s shooting arrows. Together with his inventive trio he keeps on evoking new and different atmospheres’ (NRC).

Phronesis’ performance will be preceded by a set of Floors, the part acoustic and part electric trio with some of the most intriguing young musicians of the new Italian jazz scene. Guitarist Francesco Diodati is praised for his captivating ensemble playing with trumpet celebrity Enrico Rava and he has previously played at the BIMHUIS with his own band Yellow Squeeds. In Floors he plays with Filippo Vignato (trombone, effects) and Francesco Ponticelli (double bass, electronics).
