The previous performance of Philm on our stage received a standing ovation, and was recorded on the acclaimed album Live at Bimhuis. Now the unpredictable foursome from Berlin is back. Philm is a band that constantly renews itself. The layered themes and shifting rhythms lead to music that sounds different from jazz as we know it, although there are similarities. For example, band leader Philipp Gropper has mastered the sonics of great tenor saxophonists from the past, but he consciously steers them in unexpected directions.

Philm is the main band of tenor saxophonist and composer Philipp Gropper, who’s also active in other groups from Berlin, including Hyperactive Kid with drummer Christian Lillinger. The other members of Philm have played in influential bands such as Der Rote Bereich, Pablo Held Trio, and Jim Black Trio. In 2021 Philm was awarded the Deutscher Jazzpreis in the best band category.
