PHILIPP GROPPER’S PHILM

SUN SHIP

Philipp Gropper tenorsax, Elias Stemeseder piano/synthesizer, Robert Landfermann bas, Oliver Steidle drums

Innovative band from
the Berlin avant-garde featuring members of, among others, Hyperactive Kid and
Der Rote Bereich, performing compositions from the album Sun Ship.

Philm is founded by tenor saxophonist/composer
Philipp Gropper from Berlin, who has previously performed at the Bimhuis with
acclaimed trio Hyperactive Kid. His compositions transcend existing styles and
genres and simultaneously carry forth the energy of past improvised music.

Philm’s new album Sun Ship is named after the
eponymous John Coltrane composition, but sounds completely different, with
angular, criss-crossing rhythms set against clearly formulated tenor
progressions. The members of Philm have played in influential bands such as Der
Rote Bereich, Atomic and Jim Black Trio.

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
