PHAROAH SANDERS QUARTET

Pharoah Sanders-tenor saxophone, William Henderson-piano, Nat Reeves-bass, Joe Farnsworth-drums

Pharoah Sanders possesses one of the most unforgettable tenor sax sounds in the history of jazz. His breakthrough came when he collaborated with his former mentor John Coltrane between 1964 and 1967, recorded on the legendary Impuls albums such as Ascension, Meditation, Expression and Stellar Regions, but afterward Sanders went his own way. “Few musicians, if any, can match it. The volume is so high, the tempo so fast and the tension so thick, Pharoah Sanders puts down his saxophone, screams and then returns to it for his sprawling improvisation.” (San Francisco Chronicle).
