Saxophonist, clarinettist and visual artist Peter Brotzmann is one of the founders of European free jazz. His raw, lyrical playing encompasses the whole history of jazz and avant-garde music. With his legendary octet he undermined musical traditions on the groundbreaking album Machine Gun (1968). For over ten years now his Chicago Tentet has been aiming for collective improvisation. The collective with a changing line-up consists of musicians who have all earned their place in the international improv scene, anchored by saxophone player Ken Vandermark and cello player Fred Lonberg-Holm as its driving forces. ‘One of the most exhilarating jazz-oriented groups on the scene, reaching heights of nearly unbearable intensity and beauty’ (Cadence).
