Peter Bernstein Quartet
Peter Bernstein guitar, Sullivan Fortner piano, Doug Weiss bass, Leon Parker drums
Jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein is hailed for his precision, his clear tone and his fluent solo playing. At the BIMHUIS w know him from the fantastic Hammond organ trio with Larry Goldings and Bill Stewart. In New York he has built an impeccable reputation since he was discovered by Jim Hall, who once said: ‘He is the most impressive guitarist I’ve heard. He plays the best of them all for swing, logic, feel and taste.’ Peter Bernstein played with, among others, Sonny Rollins, Bobby Hutcherson and Dr. Lonnie Smith, and with contemporaries such as Diana Krall, Joshua Redman and Brad Mehdau. His current band members have all built up incredible résumés as well. For example pianist Sullivan Fortner who played as a colourful sideman with Roy Hargrove, Cécile McLorin Salvant and Ben Wendel.
‘Bernstein personalizes every note and makes them glow’ (JazzTimes).
‘Whenever I hear Pete play a standard, he always seems to create a definitive version. He lets each tune speak for itself, treating the melody lovingly while sustaining a unique brand of relaxed rhythmic authority, a clarity of ideas, cleanliness of execution and remarkable sense of pacing’ (Brad Mehldau).
