On both sides of the pond Peter Beets is recognized as a phenomenal hard bop pianist. ‘World class improviser’ (Downbeat). The Dutchman has played with celebrities like Wynton Marsalis, DeeDee Bridgewater, Roy Hargrove and Johnny Griffin. In New York he recorded CDs for the leading jazz label Criss Cross. ‘Tasteful, cogently structured lines that always swing, and a technique that rivals anyone this side of vintage Oscar Peterson’ (Cadence). This month sees the release of a new album by Beets with New York musicians. Among them is Joe Cohn, son of saxophone player Al Cohn and renowned straight-ahead jazz guitarist.
