New Jazz Orchestra travels through the French classical repertoire by infusing it with swing, blues, and improvisation. In France, classical music and jazz have always influenced each other. In the early twentieth century, France was the first country in Europe where American jazz truly landed. It left traces in the music of classical composers such as Saint-Saëns, Debussy, and Ravel. Come along on an exciting journey past revolutionary cross-pollinations of jazz and classical music.
New Jazz Orchestra is an eighteen-piece big band led by master pianist Peter Beets. Through his exuberant playing he lifts the musicians to a higher level and makes the orchestra shine. While the band members are inspired and challenged by him, the leader himself takes pride in performing together with the top players of the current Dutch jazz generation. Peter Beets is internationally recognized as a phenomenal jazz pianist. The Dutchman has performed with such greats as Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, and Roy Hargrove.
